The Wonderful History of Handbags Part 2

By the time the 1900's came around, the term handbag was created. This term was initially meant for the hand held luggage bags men carried around. During this time, the early 1900's, women began to experiment with handbags. Soon, their unique and beautiful designs of both embroidery and material to inside secret compartments and ornately designed locks became widespread and adored by women everywhere. With the new fashions comming out, the producers of these handbags soon realized what the buyers wanted and quickly started creating handbags with little pockets inside to hold things like opera glasses, cosmetics, cigarettes, and the like.
During the roaring 1920's, it was fashionable for women to have different length in hemlines and lighter clothing. King Tuts tombe was discovered durning this time and everybody was so in awe of that fact that merchandise began showing up with egyptian styles and writing upon them. And, you guessed it, so did handbags. The handbags would begin selling with different colors and material, all adorned with egyptian writing and symbols on them. The trend was so popular that the merchants had trouble keeping their shelves stocked. When the 1940's arrived the handbags were made of many different styles and materials, including metal, mirrors, zippers, and leather. But soon the war broke out and all these materials where in very small supply. The manufacturers of handbags had to come up with something different, since they could no longer get enough materials to make their handbags as before. They soon started creating handbags that were made out of plastic and wood. 1950. As the war ended, manufacturers of handbags saw that the materials they needed were comming back again and they started making handbags with leather and metal and zippers. During this time, such great companies as Hermes, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel were born. The 1960's came and saw the styles of the handbags from antiquity go away and the new styles of youth and vigor top the scene. Many young women were carrying handbags that were more fun and different and unique, opposed to conservative and such. Handbags have been around since the egyptian times and have flourished and changed during all these many centuries. The handbag will still be with us for quite a long time, changing as the world changes, keeping up with all the latest fashion and creating new trends with every passing year. But let us not forget the wonderful history of handbags, and all that they have went through to become known what they are today.
